Become a Lifeguard, you may save a life!

Want to learn a skill that you can put to work after school and/or this summer? Train to become an American Red Cross Lifeguard and you may save a life!

To participate in the course, you must be at least 15 yrs old able to pass a prerequisite skills evaluation by doing the following:

  1. Complete online e-learning online BEFORE the first in the water session. (About 7 hours to complete.)
  2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
  3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. You should place your hands under your armpits.
  4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object while keeping your face at or near the surface so you are able to get a breath. You should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Classes will be held at LaCamas Athletic Club March 15, 16, 17; Thursday/Friday 4-9pm, Saturday 9am-7pm. Register now…classes fill quickly! $199 Non-Members & $179 Club Members. (Check your dates carefully, there are no refunds for any reason.  In the case of injury or illness, the student will be allowed to transfer to the next training at Lacamas.

We will ride from LaCamas every Saturday the roads are dry from April-September.  Be ready to hit the road at 8:30am.  We will usually ride 2-4 hours depending on the weather and desires of the group.  Often, those that show up end up forming a couple of different packs based on speed and distance.  It is all about fun, fitness and friends!  Please join the tribe this Saturday 🙂
